We all know the plot. Young couple, isolated vacation home and boogey men with masks on. But yet there is something different about this 'Scary Movie', instead of relying on the blood and guts routine for the blood thirsty teen society of today, it instead focuses more on tension and suspense and it works very well.
The director Bryan Bertino wisely builds tension up to near-breaking point, until you are left in a near nervous wreck and you find yourself terrified by the simplest thing such as a man in mask popping his head through a door way. Both Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman do well in their leading roles and the Strangers themselves are pure terror and you cant help thinking to yourself why these people are seemingly terrifying this innocent couple for no apparent reason.
'The Strangers' premise is chillingly realistic and terrifyingly possible but is made slightly implausible as they can't possibly be human as they are made to be almost supernatural in their abilities. They appear and disappear seemingly at will.
This was still a good movie which started rather slowly but made up for it later on in the movie. One for the horror fans to look out for.
